Members of the SICon research group published an article in the renowned international journal Automation in Construction (Elsevier)

The article “BIM-based mixed reality application for bridge inspection” is available in Volume 168 of the journal, published in December 2024.
The study evaluated the potential of combining Mixed Reality (MR) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to modernize bridge inspection, overcoming the limitations of traditional methods. The research demonstrated the feasibility of this approach by applying it to the Coimbra I Viaduct in Brazil. The results show that real-time integration of damage data and Augmented Reality (AR) interaction with the 3D model significantly enhance the accuracy, communication, and efficiency of structural damage identification. This work represents a crucial advancement in applying digital technology to improve the maintenance and safety of civil infrastructure.
