Members of the SICon group published an article in the Springer Nature journal.

The study addresses the sustainable management of industrial waste, focusing on the reuse of furniture industry residues in civil construction. Aiming to fill the research gap on the use of air-entraining agents (AEA) and water-retaining agents (ARA) in mortars containing such residues, the work evaluated the technical feasibility of producing recycled mortars by replacing Portland cement with wood ash and sewage sludge. The results showed high water retention (above 95%) in mortars with ARA and indicated that air incorporation varies according to the ash content and AEA dosage. It was concluded that the combination of AEA, ARA, and furniture industry residues is promising for the production of sustainable masonry mortars.
