Members of the SICon research group published an article in the Journal of Materials Research and Technology.

The article “Natural and accelerated weathering evaluation of granite and marble waste paints” is available in the journal with a publication date of 2025.
The study delved into the potential of using waste from granite and marble processing as pigments in the manufacture of low-cost, more sustainable PVA latex paints. To prove their efficacy and durability, the research conducted rigorous resistance tests: natural exposure for one year in Viçosa-MG and accelerated tests in a chamber simulating UV radiation and high temperatures. The results indicated that the paints are highly resistant, undergoing only significant color changes, possibly due to resin degradation or bacterial action. Furthermore, the study demonstrated the efficiency of the laboratory technology, as the accelerated test successfully replicated one year of natural exposure in just 17 days. This work is an important step towards transforming construction waste into valuable products, promoting innovation and sustainability in the civil engineering field.
