Members of the SICon research group published an article in the journal “Materials and Structure.”

The article “The influence of LC3 on the rheology of cementitious matrices: a systematic review of key rheological impact characteristics” is available as a publication submitted to the journal in 2025.
LC3 cement, which replaces part of the clinker with calcined clay and limestone, emerges as a sustainable alternative for eco-efficient construction. Although it presents good mechanical performance, it faces rheological challenges, such as high viscosity, yield stress, and increased water demand. The study identifies factors that influence its behavior, such as particle morphology, flocculation, zeta potential, packing, reactivity, and interaction with additives. Optimizing these variables can improve the workability of LC3. Furthermore, the use of industrial waste and its application in mortars for 3D printing show potential to improve its properties and expand its use.
